The Kuopio University Hospital represents all areas of specialised medicine working in close multi-professional cooperation. For example, the Kuopio University Hospital is one of the pioneers of brain tumour and blood vessel gene therapy in the world. The Kuopio University Hospital’s strong research areas include chronic common diseases such as diabetes, arteriosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cerebrovascular diseases and obesity. Neurosciences, imaging research, musculoskeletal disorders as well as extensive clinical research also play a major role at the Kuopio University Hospital. The nursing science research conducted at the Kuopio University Hospital is focused on, e.g. the human-oriented nature of care, personnel scaling and the development of leadership.
