The Company Profiling Engine has been designed around a transparent operating model rather than a “black box” approach. Basic information about the target company is entered into the system, which then retrieves predefined content from the company’s website and other traceable online sources for analysis. The solution is built on five key principles: comparability of results, source-based analysis, reliability assessment, traceability, and up-to-date information. In this second part of the article series, we will delve deeper into how the business profiling engine works.

From the outset, the Company Profiling Engine was designed not merely as an analytical tool but as a structured and controlled operating model. For this reason, the solution has been built to ensure that the information it produces is reliable, traceable, and consistent. Its structured architecture and documented data storage processes make it possible to verify data sources, modifications, and assessments at any stage.

The robust design of the Company Profiling Engine ensures that profiling does not depend on the expertise of a single individual. Instead, the process is repeatable, documented, transparent, and manageable at the organizational level. This is essential for establishing the engine as a permanent part of Kuopio Health’s operational activities.

Strengthening the competitiveness of Eastern Finland

The Company Profiling Engine makes it possible to create purpose-driven company groups, identify solutions suitable for specific target markets, and assess companies’ readiness for international growth. At the same time, it provides a comprehensive overview of the strengths and development needs of the regional innovation ecosystem. The documented and transparent process also supports reporting and quality assurance.

By making the expertise of regional companies more visible and easier to utilise, the Company Profiling Engine strengthens the competitiveness of Eastern Finland. When companies’ strengths, complementary capabilities, and development needs are clearly identified, collaboration can be built more strategically, international partnerships can be targeted more effectively, and new growth opportunities can be recognised. In this way, the tool supports the development of the entire region while reinforcing Eastern Finland’s position within national and international innovation networks.

The solution has been designed to be modular and scalable. Although it was originally developed for profiling companies in the health and wellbeing sector, the same operating model can be applied to other industries and development environments—such as photonics or comprehensive security—with only minor adjustments to the content.

The engine forms part of Kuopio Health’s family of digital capabilities. Its operating model can be documented, replicated, and transferred to regional clusters, national development environments, and international innovation ecosystems. Future development may include an automated user interface, integrations with additional data sources, advanced visualisation features, automated update cycles, and role-based access management.

The objective is not to make the solution technically more complex, but to ensure that it can be expanded in a controlled and practical manner. In practice, scalability means two things: the same operating model can be applied across different thematic areas while also becoming an established part of long-term operations. The Company Profiling Engine is therefore not merely the outcome of a single project but a significant step towards a sustainable, data-driven model for supporting business growth.

The Company Profiling Engine was developed and deployed in 2026 as part of the Eastern Finland Growth Path+ project. It is currently operating in a production environment to support Kuopio Health’s daily operations and provides the foundation for future development. Its primary application is to support the project’s company group activities and internationalisation efforts, while the operating model is readily scalable to other thematic areas and regional development environments.

The project is implemented by the Kuopio Health Cooperative. It runs from 1.8.2025 to 31.1. 2028 and is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The funding has been granted by the Economic Development Centre.
