HealthFOX – Advancing more digital and patient-centric healthcare

HealthFOX Ltd is a Finnish health technology company developing digital solutions to support remote care and outpatient services. The company’s mission is to make healthcare more seamless, efficient, and genuinely patient-centered.

Founded in 2014 by Kimmo Korhonen and a multidisciplinary team of experts in medicine and digitalization, HealthFOX was created to address the need for a more integrated and intelligent approach to healthcare delivery. Originally designed as a digital self-care platform for physiotherapy, the solution has evolved into a versatile and adaptable platform now used in primary healthcare, occupational healthcare, specialized medical care, and the private sector.

The company’s mission is to improve the quality of healthcare, strengthen patient engagement in their own care, and promote cost-effective and sustainable healthcare services.

A digital platform connecting care teams and patients

At the core of HealthFOX is a digital care platform that brings together all key stakeholders in the care process, from physicians and therapists to patients themselves. The platform supports planning, implementation, and monitoring throughout the entire care pathway.

“What we set out to build is an integration platform and ecosystem model that brings together all relevant patient information in one place for healthcare professionals while supporting patients in managing their care in everyday life,” explains Kimmo Korhonen, Founder and CEO of HealthFOX.

The idea originated from practical experience. Korhonen’s own experiences as both a patient and a national-level athlete highlighted a fundamental challenge within healthcare.

“Too often, healthcare focuses on treating a single symptom or condition rather than seeing the patient as a whole. We wanted to provide professionals with all the essential information at once and help them use their time more effectively. Improved communication and information sharing between patients and healthcare providers also contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the patient’s situation.”

Today, HealthFOX offers approximately 40 self-developed digital care pathways. In addition, the company serves as the international distribution partner for HUS online therapy solutions.

“Based on our market research, we can see that despite increasing digitalization, there are still very few solutions that truly bring healthcare services closer to patients, especially at a time when healthcare service networks are becoming more centralized. There is a clear need for this type of holistic concept, and our solution is protected by patents in both Europe and the United States.”

Technology supporting effective and personalized care

HealthFOX leverages modern digital technologies, including mobile solutions, automation, data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. However, technology is not intended to replace healthcare professionals. It is designed to support them.

“We do not want to replace healthcare professionals. On the contrary, we want to support their work, improve efficiency, and provide high-quality, data-driven insights for decision-making. This allows professionals to make better-informed decisions and adjust treatment plans when needed,” says Korhonen.

The platform enables automated care pathways, data-driven care needs assessment, and personalized treatment plans. Patients receive guidance in their daily lives while healthcare professionals maintain real-time visibility into treatment progress.

HealthFOX integrates with existing healthcare information systems, including Finland’s Kanta services, and can incorporate data from health technology devices such as blood pressure monitors and pulse oximeters.

“Behind the scenes, we continuously develop both the technology and the service concept. At the same time, we are actively seeking new partners to further expand the impact of our solution,” Korhonen adds.

Data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance are fundamental aspects of the platform’s development. The system is designed to integrate smoothly into healthcare workflows, supported by comprehensive documentation, training, and ongoing customer support.

Tangible benefits for patients and professionals

HealthFOX aims to strengthen the patient’s role as an active participant in their own care while providing greater clarity throughout the rehabilitation journey.

“One of the key challenges we identified was that patients often do not know when they are ready to return to everyday life, work, or hobbies. A digital care pathway provides clarity and confidence throughout that process.”

The solution creates value for all healthcare stakeholders. Healthcare professionals gain better tools for planning, monitoring, and decision-making, while organizations benefit from more efficient care processes and improved cost management. Patients, in turn, experience a clearer, more engaging, and more motivating care journey.

At the heart of the concept is the belief that an informed and engaged patient is essential for effective healthcare outcomes.

Patient feedback has been highly encouraging. One particular comment has remained memorable for Korhonen:

“An older gentleman told us that he doesn’t know how to use the Internet, but he knows how to use the HealthFOX application.”

The care process progresses step by step, with information delivered in manageable portions through daily tasks and guidance, supporting both engagement and rehabilitation.

“Our goal is to provide patients with the easiest possible way to understand their condition and recovery, one step at a time, rather than overwhelming them with information.”

From an idea to an international solution

In the early stages, the company faced challenges related to the adoption of a new digital care concept, healthcare system integrations, and slow decision-making processes.

“When we started, many people did not yet see the need for digital healthcare solutions. But if we want healthcare to become more effective and sustainable, there are really no alternatives.”

A significant milestone was the transformation of the platform from a self-care solution into a comprehensive care pathway management tool, enabling broader customer adoption and growth.

Today, HealthFOX operates not only in Finland but also internationally, including markets such as South Africa and Latvia, while discussions are ongoing in several additional countries.

Research, development, and future solutions

HealthFOX continuously develops its solutions and explores new application areas. The company’s goal is to improve healthcare outcomes, reduce costs, and increase accessibility.

“We have demonstrated that we can reduce rehabilitation costs by 50 percent while increasing accessibility by a factor of 10 to 14 compared to traditional face-to-face therapy,” says Korhonen.

The platform can also help reduce hospital readmissions and support comprehensive rehabilitation for patients with chronic conditions such as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) by combining physiotherapy, nutritional guidance, medication monitoring, and other support services.

One of the company’s key development areas is the Digital Clinic solution, designed to bring high-quality healthcare services closer to citizens and patients, particularly in regions or situations where access to traditional healthcare services is limited.

The solution combines remote care, digital monitoring, clinical decision support, and multidisciplinary collaboration. At the same time, the technology offers interesting dual-use opportunities. The same solutions can be applied not only in healthcare but also in emergency response, public safety, and crisis management operations. In this way, innovations originally developed for healthcare can also strengthen societal preparedness and resilience during exceptional circumstances.

The company is also involved in an EU-funded project utilizing drone technology for applications such as situational awareness in emergencies, search-and-rescue operations, and laboratory sample transportation.

Looking ahead, HealthFOX aims to expand internationally, develop new modules, and further enhance the use of artificial intelligence and data-driven healthcare.

Collaboration accelerates innovation in the Kuopio Health ecosystem

HealthFOX is a member of the Kuopio Health ecosystem and sees collaboration as a significant driver of growth and development.

“The way we were welcomed into the ecosystem, along with its energy, innovation, and supportive atmosphere, has been extremely valuable. Kuopio Health recognized the broader vision of HealthFOX and understood how it could be utilized as an ecosystem platform and service concept while bringing the right partners together,” Korhonen explains.

In return, HealthFOX contributes expertise in digital care pathways, system integrations, and healthcare impact development.

Lessons learned in health technology development

Moving forward, HealthFOX will continue to be guided by patient-centeredness, measurable impact, and continuous improvement. The company’s journey highlights the importance of collaboration, persistence, and building a strong team.

“One of the most important lessons we have learned is not to become discouraged. You must continuously build networks that support your idea and innovation. It is essential to create the right core team and invest constantly in both product development and customer experience,” Korhonen concludes.
